For Reliable Measurement Results

Reference spheres and calibration artifacts from ZEISS

For Calibrating Your CMM and Your Styli

How to take care of the reliability of your measurement results: With calibration artifacts you can independently check the measuring accuracy of your coordinate measuring machine. Reference spheres are used to calibrate your styli.

ZEISS Calibration Artifacts

Calibration artifacts help to closely monitor the accuracy of measuring machines. Our portfolio includes i.a. calibration artifacts for coordinate measuring machines, multisensor devices, CT measuring machines or for roughness or surface measuring devices.

References & Checks

Coordinate measuring machines are reliable in their measuring accuracy – however they need to be routinely qualified and checked. CMM checks are used for standard-compliant accuracy checks, and reference bodies (spheres and other gauges) are used to qualify sensors and styli in everyday life.

Reference Bodies and Holders

Reference spheres and bodies ensure the measuring accuracy in everyday life, and with reference to each new styli or sensor qualification. They can be optical gauges, reference spheres, ring gauges or triplets, all of which have a zero point in their center to guide the coordinate measuring machine. Depending on the measuring environment, thermally stable or standard holders are available for positioning the reference body. All products and certifications related to the coordinate measuring machine are available from ZEISS from a single source.

References for Different Applications

Ceramic reference spheres are available in different sizes, surface finish quality, sphericity, and connection threads (M6 or M8). Reference sphere sizes are recommended based on styli diameters. For styli less than 1 mm: Reference Sphere 8 mm. For styli 1 to 2 mm: Reference Sphere 15 mm. For styli greater than 2 mm: Reference Sphere 25-30 mm. Other Reference bodies are available for different applications. Ring gauges are used to qualify optical-tactile measuring instruments. Optical gauges are suitable for calibrating the ViScan camera and other 2D sensors. Self-center probing prisms are used to calibrate the rotary table axis of a CMM. Where appropriate, reference bodies are supplied with a certificate of calibration.
